Mornings are challenging, especially if you have to worry about getting kids clothed and out the door to school, getting breakfast made, coffee brewed, and dressing yourself for the work day. If you have to spend additional time rooting through piles of clothing on your bedroom floor, or digging through a stack of shoes, the work day may begin late for you. Not to mention this stress can last through your day. If your day begins in disarray, the feeling may have an effect on the rest of your day. The day will go downhill and fall to pieces from that point on. A bad start can wreck an entire day. The way to avoid this is to get things organized in your closet. You can have a calm morning without any stress induced by a big closet mess. First, get the bones of your closet together. This means installing some wire shelving or another kind of shelving, or you may have to have a whole new organization system created. Professional organizers will be able to help you with these decisions.

Once you have a strong closet “skeleton,” you will be ready to organize the newly improved space. The specific method may vary from person to person. Some people like color and style organization. If things are in color order, you know exactly where to look for a piece of clothing and you can easily determine which pieces will complement which. If you organize by style, you will know exactly where to look for a particular item of clothing or for a particular event. On workdays, all of your work clothes will be easy to locate. If it is casual clothes you need, you will know what drawer or hanger to turn to. Others choosean organization method by season or frequency worn. For instance, jeans, business suits, and sweaters may be near the front, while formal dresses and wool pants are sorted to the side.

Once you have a system in place, it is time to enact it. Spend an afternoon getting everything in order. Get comfortable with this system, be sure they understand how it works as well. If it feels good, it will be easier to use. Design a system that excites you and you will look forward to making sure you follow through in the months and years to come. Once you are organized and you begin to notice how it makes you feel, you will find yourself honoring it. Before you know it, mornings will be a pleasure for you and the newly found spirit will creep into all parts of your life.
