Organizing Your Closet Helps Organize Your Life
Sunday, October 24th, 2010Mornings can be rough, especially if you have to worry about getting kids clothed and out the door to school, getting breakfast made, coffee brewed, and dressing yourself for the work day. If you have to spend additional time rooting through piles of clothing on your bedroom floor, or digging through a stack of shoes, you will find yourself late for work fairly often. Not to mention this stress can last through your day. If you begin your day feeling frazzled and disorganized, the feeling may have an effect on the rest of your day. The day will go downhill and fall to pieces from that point on. A bad start can wreck an entire day. The way to avoid this is by organizing your life. You can wake up and begin your day without stress. The first step to getting organized is to make sure the bones of your closet fit your needs. You may need to install some wire shelving or another kind of shelving, or you may have to have a whole new organization system created. Professional organizers will be able to help you with these decisions.
Once you have a strong closet “skeleton,” you will be ready to organize the newly improved space. The specific method may vary from person to person. Some people like color and style organization. If things are in color order, you know exactly where to look for a piece of clothing and you can easily determine which pieces will complement which. If you organize by style, you will know exactly where to look for a particular item of clothing or for a particular event. If you are dressing for work, all of your work clothes will be in one place. If it is casual clothes you need, those will be in a separate space. Others choose to organize the clothing by material, season, or how frequently the wear a particular item. For instance, jeans, business suits, and sweaters are located in one place, while formal dresses and wool pants may hand further in the back.
Once your system is set, it is time to enact it. Spend an afternoon getting everything in order. Get comfortable with this system, and be sure those using your closet understand it. If it feels good, you are more likely to use it. Design a system that excites you and you will look forward to using it. Once you are organized and the organization is having a positive effect on your life, you will find yourself likely to adhere to your plan. Before you know it, your day will start smoothly and your days will go well.
