A Cheezy Family Get Together

Friday, September 9th, 2011

I am a career woman. I have a busy schedule dealing with people with health problems. I am assigned to perform my task 40 hours every week. But because of a family emergency, my colleague has to leave for seven days putting me in a position I cannot refuse. I substituted him. After two weeks of hard work, I am glad to finally have some personal time and create a memorable date with my family. To make up for the moments where my presence is badly needed, I thought of preparing a special dish for dinner. I am not a cook. So I rushed into the computer and surf the net for a simple, but exceptional recipe when Gruyere cheese recipes was shown on the screen. I find Le Gruyere of Switzerland interesting that made me yearn to learn more about it.

My search led me to know that Gruyere cheese is a famous Swiss cheese made from unpasteurized cow’s milk. The Gruyere is ripened in an environment controlled cellar for five to fourteen months to achieve a better taste. Its brownish-gold crust has holes while its center is pale yellow. It is luscious and a little briny while its surface is coarse and compressed. The hole shrinks and savors more certain when aged longer. Gruyere cheese is best when aged longer.

Gruyere was chosen to be the main ingredient for the recipe that I will prepare. I planned to prepare Four Cheese Fettucine. I am intrigue on how the mixtures of these four cheeses turn out to be. I noted down all required materials and made sure if I have them on hand. The following are the needed items. I love cheese so I store Mozzarella, Parmesan and Dolcelatte cheese, but since it is my first time to know about Gruyere, I have to visit the nearest cheese shop.

I will begin as soon as ingredients are complete. A pan of water and a little of salt was brought to boil to be used in cooking the pasta of the player for ten minutes. While cooking the pasta, I melted the butter and stir in the flour for 1-2 minutes. I removed the saucepan from heat and stir in slowly the milk. Put the saucepan back to fire, to melt the cheeses and add some flavoring,. After these, I drained the pasta, pour in the sauce and sprinkled chives. It was finally arranged to be consumed.

The Four Cheese Fettucine was served and we happily ate dinner. Yummy! The Gruyere didn’t overshadow the other ingredients. You can create your own Gruyere dish. Me and my family is pleased with such delectable dish. So waste no time, buy Gruyere Cheese in your local gourmet cheese shop or through the internet and savor this fine tasting cheese.

What Stilton Cheese Have that Others Don’t

Saturday, August 20th, 2011

What makes a food popular is the unique characteristic it possesses. Food per se is man’s requirement and is needed in performing day to day activities but a good number of people are picky when it comes to their food intake. Yet, when we tackle the word cheese, there is this thing that has slowly taken over the others and that goes by the name of Stilton Cheese.

This is the most popular among cheeses and has lorded it over the other kinds. It could be accounted as due to its versatility. I have learned that it can work in every which way food is being served or prepared.

Leading you to the kitchen will make you see the way it adds flavor to a recipe. You might catch the chef using it to garnish a salad, adding portions of it to thicken the soup, using measures of it for the main and side dish, and carefully adding some melted helpings for his baked goodies. There are definitely more uses to it than what anybody can think of.

It also comes out as one of the favorites when it comes to wine pairing as you could choose whatever kind you like to pair it with. But even as it looks awesome to many people, it sets its feet still on the ground and continues to satisfy the cravings of persons like you.

Another feature that I like to talk about is the web of veins that crisscrosses its body. The blue lines that traverse over it can be mistaken as a pattern that can be seen from an architect’s board. Seems like it is a form of art that is being drawn in there that holds a meaning.

The patterns of the veins can make one’s jaw drop and so as its savory taste. Its taste can vary from salty to being spicy that sends some excitement all over your body. Nonetheless, the most appealing of all is the strong aroma that can make you guess how it is.

I don’t know if there will be somebody who wants to contest with how I feel towards this cheese as all I know is that I feel so satisfied and mesmerized whenever I take a bite. Was I fascinated with how it was produced and developed into the delectable food that it is? And as of this moment, I am led to think of going to a nearby cheese shop and look around if they have the cheese I was telling you about.

It’s a Big World of Stilton Blue Cheese

Friday, July 8th, 2011

Cheese is one of those diverse foods in the world, it can range from blue cheese, cheese with apples and even oatmeal covered cheese. Cheese types depend on where they are located there are those that have mustard seed and even ale – the Y Fenni. I would steer clear from that. Blue Stilton Cheese would be the ultimate choice for me.

Blue Stilton is my favorite among others and is only produced in Leicestershire, Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire. This certain cheese has a semi-soft texture; it is also crumbly and does get creamier as it ages. This cheese only has nine weeks minimum for it to age.

Here are the following criteria for a cheese to be called Blue Stilton:

• Traditional cylindrical shape should be followed

• Made only in the three counties of Leicestershire, Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire.

• Be allowed to form in its crust or coat.

• Should be unpressed.

• Have visible blue veins radiating from the center.

• There should be a taste profile only available in Stilton.

Fat content is only minimal of 35% and about 23% for its protein and much lesser in sodium content too.

Food pairings like celery and pears are best for this cheese. The cheese brings out the flavors of celery and broccoli if added. This can also be eaten with plain crackers, biscuits and even bread. Did you know this can be used to make blue cheese sauce for steaks? I didn’t know that until now. Add some cheese over a green salad would be a lovely twist to it.

This makes me crave for it much more than usual. Shopping before the Holidays might be a good idea. Fine, that was a lame excuse but heck; any day is a perfect day for me to enjoy this delectable cheese. This truly reigns supreme among others. After all, cheese has always been a favorite.

I guess I need to check my cupboards for other items I might need.I would throw a nice dinner. I might need more celery and broccoli for some creamy cheese soup. I think it’s a good idea to get some fresh greens for a nice salad. Good thing I still have a bottle of port around this will definitely be a perfect pair for the steak I had in mind. How about you make that delightful dinner while I finish my shopping list? Call the best cheese shop nearest you for your Stilton Blue Cheese. Enjoy that dinner! Because I know I will truly love mine.

How the Bufala Mozzarella Made Me Whole

Wednesday, May 25th, 2011

The reason I went on a shopping trip with my best friend that day was primarily because I wanted to cheer her up. She actually came storming into my room and ranting about her now ex-boyfriend just hours before we decided to go out. I just let her vent out all her rage as she told me everything there is to know. I was half listening to whatever she was saying, thinking of something we could do together to cheer her up. Not that I cared really, because I know that she probably may have broken up with five boyfriends just for this month. Needless to say, after she was able to vent out, I grabbed my bag – and my best friend, and brought her to the market.

Someone gave me a tip tha a new gourmet hop just opened near the fruits and the veggie area. Curious about what might be bought there, I brought my best friend to see what we can cook for dinner. And then a Bufala Mozzarella was what I first saw the moment I got in. The first thing that came to my mind was how it actually tastes like. This cheese stirred the interest in me, and just as always, I bought it just to know how it tastes like. I have the store personnel to thank for because he told me everything that I need to know about this cheese.

I was quite amused in the way the store personnel talked to me about this cheese. And mind you, I can’t seem to deny the fact that he looked very charming and that he looked a lot like an Italian. And do you know that there is something about Italians that seem to captivate me? What I didn’t know was that my best friend saw everything the whole time. And because she knows how dumb I am when it comes to boys, she made sure that the guy gets my number. The next thing I knew, I was walking home with my best friend, with a huge and awkward smile on my face.

We were silent the whole time until we arrived home and we started talking about “the guy” in the kitchen. She found out that he came fresh from Italy, and that he owns the small gourmet shop. She also mentioned that the Bufala Mozzarella cheese I bought was his favorite among all the other kinds of cheeses. We used it as a topping for grilled eggplant, zucchini that was first marinated in olive oil and garlic. We topped it with the cheese and roasted peppers. Very delicious!

Later that night, I got a call from the guy. We talked for hours like high school kids. And so they say that the rest is history. Today, we are married with two wonderful kids. Truth of the matter is, I certainly have the Bufala Mozzarella Cheese to thank for. Grab a slice of this cheese today! You will be able to purchase this cheese from your gourmet shop in your town, or for your convenience, you can also log online at the cheese shop you will find.

Add Some Chocolates to Your Wine and Cheese Baskets this Holiday

Sunday, December 19th, 2010

Three items are always present in almost all Christmas parties and dinners – chocolate, cheese, and wine. If you are thinking of a unique treat to serve your guests during the holidays, why not combine those three into one dessert that will tickle everyone’s palate?

Aside from being different, this dessert idea is guaranteed to take away the stress of spending an entire day in the kitchen trying to whip up something special for the occasion. And because most wines and cheeses are best served at room temperature, there is no need to prepare several hours before the event.

Wine and cheese baskets are a part of the holidays, but a box of chocolates? It creates a whole new flavor. A chocolate, wine and cheese basket is perfect for the holidays especially if you are expecting guests belonging to a younger generation. No teenager or someone in his early 20’s can resist the taste of chocolate.

To keep you from getting all confused with perfectly pairing each cheese with each chocolate and with every bottle of wine, it is best that you highlight one item and use the other two to help emphasize its unique flavor. And since you are making a dessert, it is but logical to make the chocolates the star of the show. {Pick the kind of chocolate that you want first, then the kind of cheese that goes well with it and the wine that will sum up all the taste. ~ Choose what kind of chocolate you want for the platter, and then pick the right cheese and wine. ~ Choose which chocolate you want and then start from there.

The secret to making an excellent chocolate, wine, and cheese basket is to keep things simple. It is not wise to put together a lavish combination of wines, cheeses, and chocolates. You see, creating a wild mix of wines, cheeses, and chocolates can lead to an overwhelming blend of flavors. In order to end up with the right choices, follow these pairing suggestions and make yourself a tasty chocolate, wine, and cheese basket.

For Dark Chocolate
Since a greater part of dark chocolate is made up of cocoa, it usually comes with strong and complex flavors. Given the strong flavors of dark chocolate, a tasty Brie cheese or a mild blue cheese is great to enhance the undertones of dark chocolate. A full bodied wine like Cabernet Sauvignon is perfect in highlighting the fruity and spicy notes of dark chocolate.

Chocolate Caramels
The options are endless! A buttery caramel chocolate will taste perfectly with a fresh goat cheese and wines like a Demi-Sec Champagne – these wines have a honey and floral flavor, which complements the sweet taste of caramel.

For Chocolate Covered Nuts
Adding nuts on the pairing means going for hard aged cheeses, like an aged cheddar or Gouda. Add a bottle of Pinot Noir in the cheese basket and its toasted and spicy berry hints will bring out the interesting flavor or chocolate and roasted almonds.

Wine and Cheese Baskets: A Gift to Remember

Sunday, November 14th, 2010

We have all been there – waking up one morning and realizing it is time for spreading a little holiday cheer, but without a single idea what to give your loved ones. The problem with gift giving during Christmas is that there is no universal gift that would suit every person’s taste. There are some who like to keep things private and quiet, while some live a boisterous life. The only way to impress a person is to give him or her something that has been proven and tested to flatter the recipient, something that has been around for a long time but has never gone out of style. A classic gift such as agift basket for the holidays.

As far back as the Babylonian empire’s time, wines and cheeses have been a commodity. Cheeses were accidentally discovered when stored milk of domesticated animals began to curdle. After that discovery, people then began making cheeses on purpose because of its salty-tangy taste. Wine, meanwhile has been around for as long as there has been agriculture and civilization. The ancient process of winemaking from the crushing of grapes has little difference with wine manufacture now. After the Roman Empire spread across Europe, the kingdoms adapted the wine and cheese practice giving birth to the wine and cheese culture that we have today.

Decades ago, giving cheese baskets were done to bring goods and offering to the nobles. Nowadays, it is a common offering in housewarmings and as gifts from holiday trips. But to make the gift more appropriate for the occasion, add a few items that will represent the celebration. If you wish to give a cheese basket on Halloween, add a few Halloween themed candies to create a Halloween themed cheese basket.

If you want, you can also do something with the design! A cheese basket to be given during Christmas can be decorated with nice little wreathes and mistletoes. And since the wine and cheese basket comes with a bottle of wine, it is a perfect way to express the true spirit of the holidays. There are wines that are great with red meats and since the holidays usually mean hams and roasts, a wine and cheese basket is a perfect gift for the holidays.

There are practically a number of different wine and cheese baskets to choose from, so you can rarely go wrong. With a little creativity, you can make your wine and cheese baskets a gift to remember.

Now go find a cheese gift immediately at your trusted cheese shop.

Blue Stilton Cheese – The King of British Cheeses

Thursday, September 9th, 2010

Blue Stilton Cheese is one delicious cheese referred to as the King of British Cheeses because of its versatile taste complementing several flavors and recipes. It is a rich, strong-flavored British Blue Cheese that is best served with a robust red wine.

With its unique blue-green veins running all over the cheese, Blue Stilton is hard to miss. Although usually made from pasteurized cow’s milk, it can also be made from sheep’s or goat’s milk that inspires a strong stir among tasters. So people either hate it or love it.

Story has it that blue cheeses are actually a product of providence. It was believed that an unfortunate cheese maker left a half-eaten rye in the cheese caves. And when he returned a few weeks or months later, he found that the mold covering the bread had transplanted itself onto the cheese. The brave pioneer tasted the mold-infested cheese, and instead of throwing it away, blue cheese was born.

Stilton is a creamy blue cheese marbled with rich blue veins whose rich flavor mellows with additional aging. It is known for having a sharp after taste, which complements many foods as well. Because Stilton cheese is not pressed, it remains crumbly and flaky, making it a perfect ingredient for salads, pastas, and pizzas. Stilton is sometimes found on desert platter with its creamy taste adding to the variety of flavors.

This British blue is one of the few protected origin cheeses made from pasteurized milk. The milk is mixed with rennet, for curdling. The milk is then stirred with the mold in, making sure that it is evenly distributed in the cheese. The fun part of making Stilton cheese is when metal rods are inserted at random points on the cheese, in order for the air to get in. The rods are left in the cheese until it begins to grow mold from the bacteria.

It is part of the British tradition to serve Blue Stilton during Christmas, and often chased with a rich red wine. There is just a magic that happens in your mouth when you eat a pungent blue mold with salty cheese crystals while chasing it with a delicious Port, with all its sweet and fruity goodness. That unique kick of Stilton offsets the sweet Port, while the wine makes the strong blue seem less powerful and more shaded.

If not for that happy accident, we would never be able to experience a delicious cheese by the fire during the cold season. Holidays will be so much better with Blue Stilton cheese warming the cockles of your heart. But if Christmas is just too far off, make everyday a holiday by getting Blue Stilton Cheese today! Go buy it at your nearest cheese store.
