Get The Best Abs With ‘Classic’ Abs Equipment
These days, a lot of costly equipment is being hawked on late night television that promise to get you those ripped abs; however the best abs equipment is not one of these products. These products can give people some results, but unfortunately not as good as some of the things we have used for years. What are these great ab developers? There are three that I think are the best, and I’ll tell you why in this article.
#1 The Classic Chin-Up Bar
The best abs equipment available by far is the chin up bar. As you hang and lift your legs at the same time, you are getting a fantastic abs workout. Just take a look at the abs on a gymnast. Hanging from the bar and lifting your legs makes your abs contract more than any other abs equipment. You don’t see many people perform them, because it isn’t an easy exercise. Most people do not have strong enough cores to do more than one or two lifts. No matter how you do the lifts, either bent or straight, you are going to love the results you get in your abs. This has long been a favorite move of mine; however once I read “Convict Conditioning”, a new book about working out, I am even more of a fan now. Paul Wade, the author of “Convict Conditioning”, points out that some of the best abs are found on those who are serving time in a penitentiary, and they rely heavily on the hanging leg raise.
#2 The Ab Wheel
Poke around in any sporting good store and you can find an older ab wheel model for less than $15. The ab wheel is also great for developing your entire torso and not just the middle section. A stronger torso means your abs will be better able to protect your spine. If you really want to develop tightly packed abs, a regular routine of hanging leg raises and ab roll-outs will get you there.
#3. A Cushioned Floor Mat
I gave serious thought to putting this at the top of the list. But since most carpets come with padding these days, you could probably get away with not having one. That being said, a good exercise mat will make every floor exercise more comfortable. Things like lying leg raises feel much better when done on a floor mat. Same with planks. In fact, I always finish off every ab workout with 1-2 sets of planks. If you do not have a mat, these can be very painful.

Honestly, just having a chin up bar goes a long way. With a quick Google search, you’ll be able to find several low cost models that can be easily installed in your home. In addition to your hanging leg raises, you can also use the bar to pull some chin-ups and shape your upper body as well. So for the best abs equipment, think “old school”.
