It is very hard not to hear the tales of a dilemma that many families are facing. They report that the problem of obesity is a severe problem in our country today. The need to lose the extra pounds is not only faced by the adults, but it is also something that is threatening the young people of our country. There are many diseases and illnesses that the kids who are overweight are facing on a daily basis.

Centuries ago, getting the bare necessities in life involved a large amount of physical labor by everyone in a family. In order to provide these basic needs, much of the day was dedicated to the physical work it took to grow food and provide shelter. As we grew into an industrialized nation, the need to work as physically hard has decreased, and with that so has the waistline of Americans. Because of all of the technology that is available to us, creating a meal for the family rarely requires much physical labor and the family can sit on their butts and enjoy the fruits of someone else’s labor. The only time that we are active and doing physical things is when we decide that we want to do them. Working out only happens because we have a desire to work out instead of working out to survive. Our nation’s young are getting bigger and bigger because they don’t use up the calories that they take in.

What are kids are eating is also a reason why they are gaining weight. These foods have many things that are detrimental to our young and contain many unwanted things. Childrens diets also have a lot of sweets and treats that are not always needed. In addition to breakfast, lunch and dinner children fill up on a bunch of unhealthy snacks. Because of the way we eat and the fact that we spend less time moving around, our young are facing this growing issue. We can no longer wait for the problem to disappear.

It might not be practical to expect a young child to start doing a fitness regimen that includes a lot of six pack ab exercises, but there are many things that a child can do to get more active throughout the course of the day, so the first key is to turn off the electronics that are filling up our houses. A child can get a football and throw it around instead of trying to beat Madden football on a video game. It is important for adults to lead the way for a child because they can set a good example that children will follow. An overweight child does not have to learn how to lose weight fast, they need to understand how to exercise daily and eat a nutritionally balanced diet that will help them maintain a healthy weight for the rest of their life.

The other important thing to consider when trying to get a child to lose weight is to watch what they eat. Going out to the local restaurant and picking up a pizza may seem like a good idea, but it not the best choice for our young. Children need to eat a balanced diet that includes food from all of the major food groups. In addition, the size of the dish has an effect on weight also. In addition snacks need to be healthier too. Fruit and vegetables can make up snacks that taste good and are better for your child.

Getting a child to a healthy weight is not a simple chore to accomplish. It can overwhelm a parent.
