Marriage used to be the status of choice for the majority of American adults; however, times have changed, and fewer people are opting for this lifestyle. Not only is it acceptable to live together or have children together before getting married, but it is also acceptable to get a divorce without going to all lengths to save the union. Reading the statistics that have been compiled regarding the changes in American views on marriage can be truly mind-boggling.
The number of women who were married between the years 1970 and 1996 fell sharply. According to statistics, 7.7% of women were unmarried in 1970. The percentage fell to 5.0% by 1996. Nowadays, the marriage rate for adults living in America is 7.1 per 1000. The divorce rate has skyrocketed during this time and is currently at 3.5. If you understand these statistics, and you will see that over 50% of marriages in America end in divorce nowadays.
It is also quite common for people to cohabitate nowadays. There were approximately 439,000 couples living together in 1960 who weren’t married. A couple of decades later in 1998, that figure skyrocketed to 4.2 million couples. Undoubtedly the significance of this figure can be linked with the fact that the ages of first time marriages have risen to 25 for women and to 27 for men. People usually got married much younger in the past since it allowed them to enjoy the benefits of a permanent relationship. People usually show their commitment nowadays by living together before they walk down the aisle. Marrying at age 18, which was once quite +commonly practiced, has decreased to just 6% for women and 2% for men.
Over the course of the last 50 years or so, the number of children who were born to parents who weren’t married has skyrocketed. Where it was once considered shameful to be pregnant without the benefit of marriage, almost 1.3 million children a year are now being born to single mothers, and most people see nothing wrong with the practice. In fact, many celebrities are choosing to openly flaunt having children with current paramours rather than husbands or wives.
Second marriages generally are more prone to divorce than first marriages. There will be extra stress in the second marriage. Couples married for the first time usually don’t have additional baggage left over from their earlier lives. There are plenty of possible sources of stress in second marriages such as large debts, stepchildren, an ex-spouses. Doc No. 34Sdlhgsdl -sds
